Can we ditch
the cartoonie opening of the Cardinal highlight show (we think it was
Maximum Cardinals) where Big Red (the Cardinal redbird mascot originally
named "Sonny") "pretends" to play football with background sounds which
include the self- deprecating "whoop-whoop-whoopwhoopwhoop" following
"Let's go Cardinals?" We're a tough, physical football team, so let's
get serious. ((As the grumpy guy on NFL Sunday Ticket likes to say -
Football is full of groin pulls).
-
And as long as
we're on the subject, can we tone down Dave Pasch's "Touchdown
Cardinals!" Touchdown Cardinals! It's a Touchdown Cardinals!" opener to
Cardinals Underground and
In the Red Zone? It doesn't sound "hard core" enough (i.e. the
kind of thing you'd use to impress casual-fans or non-fans but not
Cardinal regulars).
-
Speaking of
Cardinals Underground - I love this show (almost as much as Wiz's
pressers). Just a bunch of Cardinals media guys chewing that fat midweek
about our team, Best thing is that, despite being so close to the team,
Urban, Wolf and Calvisi don't sound like homers. Kudos to them, Jim O
and the Cardinal front office.
-
And with all
due respect to long-time Cardinal on-air regular, Kevin McCabe, it seems
like every other NFL team on FOX has a former player (and not a media
type) handling the sideline color commentary. I enjoy Kevin more when
he's at "The Grill" emceeing Sound Off Live than I do watching
him on the sidelines.
-
Is it me? Or
do most of the beat-writers (other than Darren, Kent and Glenn) on
Sound Off Live (FSN-AZ) have a perpetual chip on their shoulders
regarding the Cardinals?
-
Now that the
Cardinals have won their first game of pre and regular season, don't you
feel some of the love we're getting from the national media sheep is
undeserved? (I get mad when everyone gangs up on the Cardinals. I get
mad when too much praise is heaped on them before they've really earned
it. So what's the right balance?)
-
Anyone else
feel that our road unis are a bit "delicate" looking?
-
Most
refreshing thing about Wiz and his staff is that the things he does and
the moves he makes have nothing to do with ego (i.e. it's not about
proving how smart he is, insisting that he's right or "firing for
effect") and everything to do with improving the team and winning
football games.
-
I love the
video clips posted on the
official
Cardinal website
- especially Ken Whisenhunt's post-game press conferences Even on
their best days, NFL Network tends to air only excerpts of the pressers
(when they air it all all - this past week, I checked out theNFL Net's
Extra Point and Total Access shows searching in vain for
Wiz's comments. Then, voila! There it was on the Cardinal website in all
its complete glory.

You know
you've arrived when Sterling Sharpe (who is not an easy sell) picks you
to beat the Ravens.

Last time I
attended a Cardinal game in Baltimore was at the old Memorial Stadium on
33rd St. (Surrounding homeowners used to rent parking space on their
driveways and front lawns). I saw us clobber Bert Jones & Co. and break
the team record for sacks. How many of you remember the dude who used to
climb up on the rim at the tippy-top of the stadium and use body
contortions to spell out the word "Colts in time to the locomotive
cheer?"
